  1. README.TXT - QCDRUN (TM) CD-ROM Library System - Version 1.1
  2.                 Release Notes and License Documents

  4. QCDRUN (TM) and all related files and texts 
  5.                                         Copyright 1993 QUART, Inc.
  6.  
  7. QCDRUN (TM) is a CD-ROM Autoloader Library System that builds a 
  8. master library of available CD-ROMs and offers single command 
  9. convenience for running any CD-ROM in the library. The core system 
  10. consists of the Loader, QCD.EXE; and QLIB.EXE, which installs and 
  11. edits entries in the master library.  QCDRUN is written in the 
  12. WinBatch/Windows Interface Language and is distributed in compiled 
  13. and run-time encoded form for users who do not have access to WIL 
  14. or WinBatch. 
  15.                 
  16. QCDRUN requirements:
  17.  
  18. Hardware: PC(compatible) 286-386-486 system capable of running
  19. Microsoft Windows 3.1 or higher in standard or enhanced mode. 
  20. Requires one hard drive with 1.2 MB free for installation, one 
  21. floppy drive, CD-ROM drive, and mouse or other pointing device.         
  22.  
  23. Software: MS-DOS 4.0 or higher and Windows 3.1 or higher. MSCDEX.EXE
  24. v2.2 or higher CD-ROM extensions for MS-DOS. 
  25.         
  26. Optional features including:
  27.  
  28.         - on-line reading and printing of documentation files and 
  29. registration forms; 
  30.         - creation of .PIF files to install DOS CD-ROM applications 
  31. into Windows; and 
  32.         - shelling out to search archival files on CD-ROM; 
  33.  
  34.         require access to the WINDOWS utilities and accessories 
  35. WINFILE (Windows File Manager); NOTEPAD; WRITE; and PIFEDIT, which 
  36. should be located in the main Windows directory.

  38. To install QCDRUN:
  39.         
  40. In Windows - in Program Manager or File Manager:
  41.      at the File Run prompt: enter "D":QINSTALL, 
  42.      where "D" is the drive containing the installation disc
  43. Then simply follow the on-screen instructions.

  45. QCDRUN is distributed in two 360K 5.25 inch floppy disks or as a 
  46. single floppy disk in other formats (labelled "Disk 1").
  47.

  82. Shareware distribution gives users a chance to try software before
  83. buying it. Beyond a nominal fee for the reproduction and media cost, 
  84. no fee may be charged for distribution of this software. If you try 
  85. a Shareware program and continue using it, you are expected to register. 
  86. Copyright laws apply to Shareware just as to commercial software.
  87.                               
  88. In the shareware distribution, QCDRUN is complete and functional 
  89. in all respects. Unregistered users are limited to 50 sessions of 
  90. QCD.EXE. The session count increases only when you run QCD.EXE to 
  91. load CD-ROMs. A single session may allow loading and running several 
  92. CD-ROMs sequentially and ends when you exit QCD.EXE.

  94. Registered users receive:
  95.  
  96.         - a password that removes this usage limit and the message 
  97.           screens relating to registration; 
  98.  
  99.         - a copy of the newest version of QCDRUN if substantial 
  100.           revisions have been made between their shareware version 
  101.           and the time of registration; 
  102.           
  103.         - free technical support by telephone, fax, E-mail, or mail 
  104.           for a guaranteed minimum of 3 months after registration; 
  105.       and
  106.  
  107.     - a bonus certificate allowing the registered user a one-half
  108.       discount on a single issue of the "JCSM Shareware Collection"
  109.       CD-ROM from JCS Marketing, Inc.      
  110.           
  111. QUART, Inc. will refund registration fees to registered users of 
  112. current versions of QCDRUN who encounter major problems that cannot 
  113. be resolved through technical support. QUART, Inc., at its sole
  114. discretion, reserves the right to discontinue technical support 
  115. of outdated or obsolete versions of QCDRUN at any time.                   
  116.  
  117. Registered users will be kept advised of bugs and incompatibilities 
  118. and their fixes, and will be given preferential opportunities to 
  119. upgrade to new versions of QCDRUN as these become available.
  120.         
  121. By using QCDRUN all users acknowledge and consent to the following 
  122. DISCLAIMER OF WARRANTY:
  123.          
  124. QCDRUN (TM), including all related programs, texts, and files, is 
  125. supplied "as is". QUART, Inc. disclaims all warranties, expressed 
  126. or implied, including, without limitation, the warranties of 
  127. merchantability, compatibility now or in the future with any 
  128. configuration of computing equipment or software, or of fitness 
  129. for any purpose. QUART, Inc. assumes no liability for damages, 
  130. direct or consequential, which may result from the normal use or 
  131. abuse of QCDRUN and related programs. QUART, Inc. specifically and 
  132. categorially disclaims responsibility for damages, direct or 
  133. consequential, resulting from installation or use of QCDRUN or 
  134. related programs or files which have been distributed after any 
  135. modification - either deliberate or unwitting - by any party other 
  136. than QUART, Inc., or distributed in any fashion that would otherwise 
  137. violate the terms of this license. In all cases, without exception, 
  138. the maximum liability of QUART, Inc. to any user for any problem or 
  139. dispute arising out of the use of QCDRUN or any related files and 
  140. texts shall be limited to the amount of the registration fee. Any 
  141. dispute arising out of the use of QCDRUN or any related files and 
  142. texts within the terms of this license shall fall within the 
  143. jurisdiction of the courts of Broward County, Florida.

  145. QCDRUN is a "shareware program" and is provided at no charge to 
  146. the user for evaluation. Feel free to share it with your friends, 
  147. but you may not alter it in any manner or incorporate it as part of 
  148. another system. Users may distribute copies of QCDRUN free of charge 
  149. PROVIDED that the distribution includes ALL the files listed above 
  150. or their then current versions or equivalents as specified and 
  151. initially distributed by QUART, Inc., without modification, deletion, 
  152. or addition. This software remains the property of QUART, Inc. and 
  153. may not be modified in any way. If you violate these conditions, 
  154. you have violated your license and our copyright, and QUART, Inc. 
  155. will require you to desist.

  157. If you find QCDRUN useful and want to continue to use QCDRUN after 
  158. 50 sessions, you must pay a registration fee to QUART, Inc. You must 
  159. also submit a signed and dated registration form confirming your 
  160. acceptance of these terms and conditions. QUART, Inc. will not accept 
  161. unsigned registration forms. The amount of the registration fee will 
  162. be set from time to time by QUART, Inc. as indicated on the registration 
  163. form. The registration fee will license one copy to you for unlimited 
  164. numbers of uses on any one computer at any one time. You must treat 
  165. this software just like a book. This software may be used by any 
  166. number of people and may be freely moved from one computer location 
  167. to another, so long as there is no possibility of the same software 
  168. from the same original distribution copy being used at more than one 
  169. location at the same time. This is comparable to a single copy of a 
  170. book, which cannot be read by two different persons in two different 
  171. locations at the same time.

  173. Commercial users of QCDRUN must register and pay for their copies of
  174. QCDRUN within 30 days of first use or their license will be withdrawn.
  175. Site-License arrangements may be made by contacting QUART, Inc.
  176.  
  177. Anyone wishing to distribute QCDRUN for any kind of remuneration 
  178. must first contact QUART, Inc. at the address below for authorization. 
  179. This authorization will be automatically granted to distributors
  180. recognized by the Association of Shareware Professionals (ASP) as
  181. adhering to its guidelines for shareware distributors, and such 
  182. distributors may begin offering QCDRUN immediately. However, QUART, 
  183. Inc. must still be advised so that the distributor can be kept 
  184. up-to-date with the latest version of QCDRUN.

  186. Please pass a copy of QCDRUN along to your friends for evaluation. 
  187. Please encourage them to register their copy if they find that they 
  188. can use it. 
  189.         
  190. QUART, Inc. has applied for membership in the Association of 
  191. Shareware Professionals (ASP). QUART, Inc. enthusiastically supports 
  192. ASP's standards for ethical behavior and corporate support for 
  193. shareware providers, vendors, and users.

  195. Planning is already under way for modifications to incorporate into 
  196. the next version of QCDRUN. Legitimate suggestions for enhancements, 
  197. modifications, or optimizations from registered users are welcome. 
  198. Registered users suggesting changes or enhancements that are 
  199. incorporated into a subsequent version of QCDRUN will receive a 
  200. complimentary copy of that revised version.
